Lee Miller was a success on both sides of the camera, starting her career as a top model for Vogue. Arriving in Paris in 1929, she became the apprentice, collaborator and muse of Man Ray.
In 1937 Roland Penrose invited her and other major Surrealists to Lambe Creek, on the Fal river. During the war she photographed and reported the German occupation of France, the London Blitz and the liberation of Paris. In April 1945, when many of her colleagues put down their cameras in horror, she was able to to record the first professional images of German concentration camps.
