Kenneth Newton was the most outstanding Royal Academy student of his generation, scooping first prize medals for drawing, portrait, landscape and life painting. Sir Gerald Kelly PRA acted as a mentor to Newton, recommending clients and at his own expense providing Newton with best quality paints, brushes and canvases. In 1958, whilst painting Cubitt's Yacht Basin, Newton met Eleanor, who was staying on a barge there. They fell in love and married, having two children, Kimble and Kami.
Newton's friend and patron Richard Harris donated an important collection of paintings and drawings to Falmouth Art Gallery in 2002.
