Master Prints

Christopher Lloyd CVO, former Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures, described the Master Print collection at Falmouth Art Gallery as “one of the most important print collections outside of London”.

Major Old Master prints were donated by the connoisseur Alfred A. De Pass, a successful South African businessman, who lived for many years at Cliffe House situated near the Falmouth Hotel.  His generosity encouraged others to donate important prints.

The collection includes original master prints by Albrecht Durer (1471-1528), Rembrandt (1606-1669), Claude Lorrain (1600-1682), Adriaen van Ostade (1610-1685), Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) through to Henri Matisse (1869-1954), Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), Sir Peter Blake, Francis Bacon, Merlyn Evans and Patrick Caulfield.

In addition The Art Fund has presented the gallery with two important print collections, The Art Fund Hugh Stoneman Archive and the Naomi G. Weaver Art Fund Gift (for more information see Art Fund Acquisitions in the Permanent Collection section of this website).
