Volunteering for Falmouth Art Gallery has developed my skills and given me the chance to observe, handle and study a wide range of Cornish Art. My love for the work of Henry Scott Tuke RA RWS (1858 1929) lead me to an ongoing relationship with Falmouth Art Gallery. |
A friend introduced me to Falmouth Art Gallery in my first year of a BA (hons) in Fine Art at University College Falmouth, I quickly learnt about their work with the local community and was very eager to be involved with their education programme.
Working at Falmouth Art Gallery is marvellous. I get to learn many museum related topics from cataloguing to hanging children's educational works and masterpieces. I am guided and work with a team of friendly staff and it is a great opportunity for me to meet many interesting people.
I help with the education programme, including special needs workshops, which are regularly held in the gallery. This has led me to offer presentations to childrens hospices around the country. I now also offer professional presentations to accompany Falmouth Art Gallerys Bit of a dive touring exhibition of underwater photographs.
After completing an Art History BA at Bristol University, I began an MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies at Leicester University. Part of my course consisted of a two-month work placement at one of a selection of museums from throughout the country. My attention was immediately drawn to Falmouth Art Gallery.

An integral part of the History of Modern Art & Design programme I was studying at College was the requirement to complete two weeks work placement in a suitable environment. I would not be working in large London based museums like some of my fellow students. For pragmatic reasons I chose to look for somewhere local to work and Falmouth Art Gallery fitted the bill.

Having completed my MA in print making at Camberwell College I felt it would be good experience working behind the scenes at a lively public gallery. I was asked to design a print installation as a centrepiece for the River exhibition, which also included work by J.M.W.Turner RA, Henry Scott Tuke RA, Peter Firmin and Francis Hewlett. |
Growing up and living in Falmouth I have been surrounded by a very creative and artistic community. The whole vibrancy and unique atmosphere of the people and the Cornish landscape have influenced me, giving me a strong interest in the visual arts

Volunteering has not only helped me to contribute to my local community but has also given me a great deal of pleasure and personal satisfaction.
