About this work

view without frame

Weiss, Jose (1859-1929): Landscape near Arundel, Sussex, signed, oil on canvas, 82 x 122 cms. Presented by Alfred A. De Pass in memory of his sons.

More information about the frame

This is a larger version of the frame on William Strang?s Dr Warre-Cornish, Vice-Provost of Eton, and must have been made by the same framemaker. Both paintings were in the collection of Alfred de Pass, so may have been framed at the same time ? possibly by a Falmouth workshop. The present frame is possibly more effective for its subject, the Régence curlicues echoing the shapes of bushes, clouds and trees.
