About the Artist

Blow was an important abstract painter, born in 1925 in London. She studied at St Martin?s School of Art under Ruskin Spear 1941-46, continuing her studies at the Royal Academy schools in 1946-47 and Academia a delle Belle Arte, Rome 1946-47. She travelled across Spain and France; returning to London in 1950. Her first one-man show was at Gimpel Fils 1951. Blow spent 14 years teaching at the Royal College of Art from 1960. In the mid 1990s she moved back to St Ives, reinvigorating the Cornish art scene, 35 years after she had first left. Meanwhile she was still involved with the Royal Academy, participating in every following Summer Exhibition at Burlington House.
