FULL SAIL
The recent landmark acquisition by Falmouth Art Gallery of a masterpiece by John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) has acted as a catalyst for a whole series of exhibitions celebrating the rich artistic and maritime heritage of The Fal area, of which 'Full Sail' is one of the highlights.
The tradition of a marine art that can capture the drama, exhiliration and respect for the power of the sea cnotinues to flourish today. Falmouth, and the excitement of the Pendennis Cup in particular, still atracts marine artists with international reputations to the area.
For this exhibition we invited three of the most distinguished and popular of these artists to record the excitement of the Pendennis Cup, as well as exhibiting examples of their work made elsewhere - such as on The Solent or St Tropez.
